Goldendoodle: origin
Goldendoodles are crossbred dogs born from the cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, usually of medium or standard size. These dogs started to appear due to the demand for more breeds considered hypoallergenic, a characteristic of the Poodle that lose very little by. In this way, they compensated for the Golden Retriever's exaggerated hair loss. On the other hand, the breed is praised for its abilities as a guide dog and therapy dog, something it inherited from the Golden Retriever, famous for traditionally performing these tasks.
Why develop a new breed if there is already one that perfectly fulfills these functions? This is where it all comes together, what if the person the Golden has to assist is allergic to dog fur? That's why the Goldendoodle is the ideal dog. Goldendoolde's first puppies were born in 1992, originating simultaneously in Australia and the United States. Currently, Goldendoodles are considered a hybrid breed, which is why they do not have an official cynological classification.
Goldendoodle: features
A Goldendoodle can be of three different sizes:
- Great: between 20 and 30 kilos;
- Medium: between 14 and 20 kilos;
- Mini: up to 6 kilos.

On the part of Golden Retrievers, they usually inherit the tendency to suffer hip dysplasia, so it is recommended that periodic visits to the veterinarian include an extensive trauma check, with periodic radiographs. Thus, it is possible to notice early if there is any problem and take the relevant measures as soon as possible.
From Poodles, Goldendoodles inherited a tendency to suffer from blood disorders, with von Willebrand disease, which affects the formation of blood platelets. The Poodles also inherited a propensity for vision-related disorders, such as cataracts and ocular entropion. Poodles and Goldens are prone to eye diseases, both the mentioned ones and progressive retinal atrophy or glaucoma. All of them can lead to blindness, so it is important that your puppy is checked periodically to ensure that his eyes are in good condition and that everything is in order.
In addition, it is necessary to carry out analytical consultations, deworming and vaccination when appropriate, combined with mouth, ear and eye cleanings, both at home and in the veterinary consultation.
