Physical appearance
It is a strong and large dog. There are two types of Golden Retrievers, although with some differences we find the British it's the American-Canadian. As basic differences we can mention that the Briton has a wider snout, a deeper chest and a shorter tail. It is heavier than its American cousin which has an angled back and slanted eyes. The head is big and so is the body, which looks robust and athletic.
has a by medium long generally smooth, golden in color and water repellent. In Canada we can find darker specimens but all follow a line of light tones like gold or cream, never red or mahogany.
Character
The Golden Retriever is a dog of character. friendly, affable and energetic. It has a good temperament and mentally it is an agile dog. Very faithful to its owners, it demonstrates to them its intelligence, adaptability, docility... And it has a great desire to satisfy. All these qualities describe the breed and make it unique and special.
They are not just one person dogs, they tend to be kind to strangers and for this reason they are not usually used as guard dogs. In general, they are not aggressive, shy or hostile.
Health
Like any other breed of dog, you should take it regularly to your veterinarian clinic to check that everything is fine and to be given the necessary vaccinations. They suffer from some genetic disorders and other diseases such as:
- Hip or Elbow Dysplasia
- Obesity and overweight
- Cancer
- Cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy
Most of these diseases develop in older specimens, yet we must be aware of the health of our Golden Retriever and have be careful with your food because they are very greedy and will do everything in their power to get you to reward them.
care
Golden can adapt to living in an apartment or a house without any problems. What's critical is getting your required dose of exercise broken down into three daily walks. It is a very active dog.
The Golden Retriever's fur will need brushing twice a week, and we should offer it more care during the moulting seasons (spring and autumn). The bath should be every 2 or 3 months, for this reason we advise you to look for long-lasting pipettes.
THE food must be balanced and according to the exercise that the dog performs, it will always have to have plenty of fresh water to drink.
Behavior
Like any dog, the Golden retriever must be socialized with people and animals from an early age. They don't need a complex education like for example other races that need a more experienced leader. Golden will be willing to comply without any problems. Fits perfectly to living with children and other animals.
Except for occasional cases, the Golden is usually a good and docile dog.
education
It is ranked at number 4 of the smartest breeds according to Stanley Coren. If you adopt a Golden Retriever as a pet and devote time and constancy, you will have a dog at your side that will know how to perform various orders and tasks.
Golden is a dog that, in addition to its wonderful character, will make us want to interact. This breed enjoys different daily activities, especially if they receive some kind of reward. Swimming, picking up the newspaper or playing games with different dolls will exercise both your physique and your mind.
It's a good dog for activities like the Agility, the help of people with physical disabilities, does functions therapeutic or of rescue and even from drug sniffers.
