The Tonkinese are cats descended from the Siamese and Burmese, as it was through the crossing of felines of these two species that the first examples of the Tonkine cat originated. In the beginning, they were known as golden Siamese, which makes it difficult to date the exact moment when the breed appeared. Many say that in 1930 there were already Tonkinese cats, while others claim that it was not until 1960, when the first litter was born, that it was recognized as such.
Whatever the origin date of the Tonkinese cat, the truth is that in 1971 the breed was recognized by the Canadian Cat Association, and in 1984 by the Cat Fanciers Association. On the other hand, FIFe has not yet set the breed standard.
Physical characteristics of the Tonkinese cat
Tonkinese cats are characterized by having a balanced body, neither too big nor too small, with an average weight between 2.5 and 5 kg, being medium sized cats.
Continuing with the physical characteristics of the Tonkinese cat, we can say that its tail is quite long and thin. Its head has a rounded silhouette and a modified wedge shape, longer than it is wide and with a blunt snout. On his face, his eyes stand out with a piercing, almond-shaped look, big eyes and always sky blue or bluish green color. Their ears are medium, rounded and with a wide base.
