Before explaining why a female dog has a transparent discharge, we will talk about the usual discharges that can appear in female dogs, for example:
bitch with pink discharge
This color is typical of the beginning of the estrus phase and varies from light pink to dark pink.

It is a more or less thick secretion, with a bad smell and pus, which usually indicates pyometra, except if the bitch is in heat or has just given birth, in which case the bleeding is normal and called lochia.

As we mentioned before, this type of secretion is usually related to an infection, such as that produced by a pyometra (uterine infection) or matrix infection. Therefore, it is essential to consult a veterinarian to perform the exams, reach a diagnosis and give the appropriate treatment, since if you do not act quickly, it can lead to the death of the bitch.

Another possible cause is the vaginitis, an inflammation of the vagina that does not always imply infection. The explanation for a bitch with transparent discharge without other symptoms, it may be a normal vaginal discharge, but it may also indicate a pregnancy loss in the early stages of pregnancy. The embryos did not get implanted due to some problem with the bitch or genetic problems with the dogs. If a female dog is pregnant and does not gain weight or go into labor, it may be that she is in this situation.
Fetal resorption occurs up to approximately 40 days of gestation. In these cases, the bitch could have a clear vaginal discharge, which could contain blood or pus. If the pregnant bitch has a transparent discharge it's normal for guardians to be concerned, but if you don't have any other symptoms, it's probably a normal vaginal discharge. On the other hand, if the dog is pregnant or in labor and you notice a purulent discharge, it may be an indication of an infection. If the discharge is green, it could mean placental detachment or bleeding, as the bitch could be bleeding.

Dog with transparent discharge: other causes
A bitch with clear or mucous discharge may be suffering from some type of tumor in the vagina or vulva, they are more common in older females. In addition to the secretion, you can find symptoms such as vaginal bleeding, excessive licking in the region, increased urination frequency or even having a thicker secretion. These tumors are usually benign and can be operated on.
