Boston Terrier History
Unlike other dog breeds, the Boston Terrier has a well documented history. The breed was developed by a coachman who worked for the wealthy people of Boston in 1865. This coachman was dedicated to crossbreeding his workers' breed dogs, and began by breeding an English Terrier to a Bulldog. It is from this cross that this breed has the word "terrier" in its name, but these days there are none of those hard hunting puppies in the Boston Terrier.
The ancestry of this cross was reproduced only with small dogs and mainly with French Bulldogs. This explains the great similarity that exists between the Boston Terrier and the French Bulldog. Over time, the Boston Terrier has gained increasing popularity and is now one of the most popular dogs in the United States and much of Europe. In Latin America it remains a little-known dog, but it is not at all strange.
Boston Terrier Characteristics
The Boston Terrier's body is short, compact and square in structure, meaning that its length is equal to the height of the withers. This dog's paws are strong for its size and elegant. The Boston Terrier's head is short and square. It is well proportioned in relation to the rest of the body and its expression denotes a high degree of intelligence. The nose, black and wide, has a well-defined furrow between the nostrils.
