colorful birds

Around the world, some of the colorful birds that usually hypnotize and enchant the human vision are:

Black-backed dwarf-kingfisher (Ceyx erythaca)

Among its similars, this subspecies of kingfisher stands out for the carnival of colors of its plumage. It is an oriental species, that is, it does not exist in Brazil.

Calypte Anna

This species of hummingbird can be found in North America, more specifically in the east coast regions. Males can draw attention by the pink-pink spots on the head that contrast with the rest of their plumage in shades of green and gray.

Golden Pheasant or Catheleuma (Chrysolophus pictus)

Originally from the forests of western China, today this unique species can be found in captivity and nurseries in other parts of the globe. This is a Galliform bird and the one who draws attention due to the vividness of the colors and tones is always the male.

Maned (Eudocimus ruber)

Birds of the Eudocimus genus usually have their popular name accompanied by their coloration, for example. red guará, pitanga guará... and so on. The color is its most striking feature as it may resemble a flamingo, but it isn't. It is the national bird of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean, but it also occurs in other parts of South America, including Brazil.

American Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber)

For the avoidance of doubt, the American flamingo, specifically, is the one who usually draws attention by the pink plumage and her long legs. It is hardly seen in Brazil, but in other parts of the north of the continent, Central America and North America.

goura victoria

Mind you, does this majestic bird remind you of something? Well, know that this is a species of dove that inhabits the forests of New Guinea. Its color palette features shades of blue, gray and purple, red eyes and a delicate blue crest.

Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata)

Despite its oriental origins, the mandarin duck migrated and established itself around the world, being always recognized by the combination of harmonic colors and its unmistakable traits, especially in the case of males.

Peacock (Pavo and Afropavo)

All birds of these genera can be called peacocks and usually draw attention for the exuberance of their tail plumage. The colors green and blue are the most common to be seen, although there are cases of artificial selection whose appearance is an exception.

Eurasian Poem (Upupa epops)

This is one of those cases where the bird is part of our list of colored birds not so much for the colors themselves, but for the way in which they are distributed. This is a resident bird of southern Portugal and Spain.

Rainbow Parakeet (Trichoglossus haematodus)

The name of this species of parakeet that inhabits Oceania speaks for itself. It has feathers, that's right, the colors of a rainbow and inhabits woods, forests and even urban areas in its regions of origin.

Quetzal-resplendent (Pharomachrus mocinno)

This colorful bird is a symbol of Guatemala, but it also inhabits the forests of Mexico and Costa Rica and, most of the time, flies alone. The resplendent quetzal does not exceed 40 cm in length. What really stands out about him is the glow of his green plumage.

Brazilian colorful birds

Brazil has 1982 species of birds, 173 of which are threatened with extinction. Considering such variety in our fauna and flora, it is not surprising that this is reflected in colorful birds, whether in feathers or beaks. Some of them are:

Macaws (psittacidae)

Arara, in Tupi, means birds of many colors. The term, in fact, does not refer to just one species but to the Arinies of the Psittacidae family, in taxonomic terms. There are different species of macaws and all of them are colored, and the variant colors are usually: blue or red and yellow, white and black parts.

Cardinals (Paroaria)

All birds of the Paroaria genus are known as cardinals. Any resemblance to the birds in the Angry Birds game is no coincidence. It usually occurs in the South and Southeast of the country.

Yellow Jandaia (Aratinga solstitialis)

It is difficult not to be impressed by the colors of this aratinga breed, which occurs mainly in the Amazon, but also in other areas of Brazil. It is small and does not exceed 31 cm. At the conclusion of this article, its conservation status was listed as endangered by the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species.

Toucans (Ramphastidae)

The designation of toucans is similar to that of macaws, in fact, all birds that taxonomically belong to the family are called toucans. Ramphastidae, of the order of Piciformes. They are birds colored not so much by their plumage, but by the color of their long beak, which contrasts with the rest of the body. They are also found in other South American countries such as Mexico and Argentina.

Seven-color exit (seledon tangara)

This name is already more than enough reason for this endemic bird of the Atlantic forest be part of the list of colorful birds, the photo proves it. The female is usually lighter than the male.

the intelligence of birds

Far beyond these incredible colors, we make a point of highlighting the intelligence of these animals and the importance of preserving them in nature. In the video below we tell the moving story of the most intelligent parrot in the world.
