Of very recent appearance, the American Curl cat was developed in the California in the 80s. because in 1981 two breeders found a kitten with curled ears and decided to adopt him. In the first litter, two other specimens were born with these characteristic ears, one short-haired and the other long-haired.
This new breed with characteristic little ears caused a "fury", many were the breeders and admirers interested in getting specimens of the American Curl cat. Due to this fame and the rapid expansion of the breed she was soon recognized by official bodies, in 1991 to CFA officially recognized and a little later, the breed standards were published by FIFE in 2002.

American Curl cats are from average size, weighing between 3 and 5 kg, females are a little smaller than males, they usually have height at the withers between 45 and 50 centimeters and females 40 and 45 centimeters. Its body is long and very muscular, with rectangular silhouettes. The heads of these cats are wedge-shaped, being longer than they are wide, and a rounded muzzle with a firm chin. Their eyes are large and rounded, with a generally yellow or green coloration, although, depending on the coat pattern, other colors such as blue may appear.
The ears, the most striking feature of this breed of cat, are very curious as they appear curved, with a more or less pronounced arch that can be between 90 and 180 degrees. A curiosity is that when these cats are born, the ears are straight, curling over the first week of life. Furthermore, this curvature does not become definitive until the animal reaches 5 months of age.
The breed's fur can have various lengths, although it is always slim and glossy. We can find the long-haired Curl cat and the short-haired cat, however, they both share very varied patterns and colors, as all patterns except chocolate or cinnamon are accepted, comprising all possible shades.
