More and more people stop buying animals and adopt them in animal shelters or shelters to offer them a better quality of life and prevent them from being sacrificed. If you are also one of these people, perhaps you are looking for the roots of your dog or simply you are having difficulty distinguishing one breed from another, as with the French bulldog and the Boston terrier.
In this article, we review in a general way the different breeds of dog that exist and we help you to identify, through physical aspects and behavior, the origin of your dog. Continue reading this PeritoAnimal article and find out how to identify a dog's breed.
Observe your dog's physical characteristics
We should start with the easiest, which is to see what our dog is like. For this, we must analyze the following characteristics:
The size
- toy
- Small
- Medium
- Great
- Giant
Size can help us rule out certain breeds and make us investigate more about others. For example, we find in the giant dog breeds a limited number of specimens, such as the São Bernardo and the Bullmastiff.
type of fur
- Long
- Short
- Medium
- Hard
- Thin
- Curly
The curly hairs usually belong to water puppies such as the poodle or poodle. The very thick fur usually belongs to puppies from the group of European shepherds or spitz-type puppies.
muzzle shape
- Long
- Flat
- wrinkled
- Square
The wrinkled snouts usually belong to dogs like the English bulldog or the boxer, among others. On the other hand, snouts that are thinner and longer, may belong to the group of greyhounds. The powerful jaws usually belong to terriers.
Keeping in mind the specific attributes of your puppy, we will continue to analyze the FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) groups one by one so that you can find the breed most similar to your puppy.
