71% of the planet is formed by the oceans and there are such a number of marine animals that not even all species are known. However, the rise in water temperature, contamination of the seas and hunting are threatening the level of marine life and many animals are in danger of extinction, including species that we will never get to know.

Human selfishness and consumerism and the care with which we treat our own planet is causing the marine population to be increasingly affected.

At PeritoAnimal we show you several examples of endangered marine animals, but this is simply a sample of the great harm that is being done to the life of the oceans.

hawksbill turtle

This type of turtle, originating from tropical and sub-tropical regions, is one of the marine animals that is in critical danger of extinction. in the last century its population has decreased by more than 80%. This is especially due to hunting, as its carapace is very popular for decorative purposes.

Although there is an express ban on the trade in hawksbill turtle shells to prevent the total extinction of these turtles, the black market continues to explore the purchase and sale of this material to the most inordinate limits.

marine vaquita

This small, shy cetacean lives only in an area between the Upper Gulf of California and the Sea of Cortes. It belongs to a family of cetaceans called Phocoenidae and among them, the marine vaquita is the only one that lives in warm waters.

This is another one of the marine animals in danger of imminent extinction, since currently less than 60 copies remain. Its massive disappearance is due to the contamination of water and fishing, because, although these are the objective of fishing, they are trapped in the nets and meshes that are used to fish in this region. Fishing authorities and governments do not reach any agreement to definitively ban this type of fishing, causing the population of marine vaquitas to reduce year after year.

Leather turtle

among the types of sea turtles that exist, this one inhabits the Pacific Ocean, is the biggest of all turtles that exist today and, moreover, is one of the oldest. However. in just a few decades it managed to place itself among marine animals in danger of extinction. It is, in fact, in critical danger for the same reason as the marine vaquita, uncontrolled fishing.

Bluefin tuna

Tuna is one of the top rated fish on the market thanks to its meat. So much so, that the excessive fishing to which it was subjected caused its population to decrease 85%. Bluefin tuna, coming from the Mediterranean and the eastern Atlantic, is on the brink of extinction due to its large consumption. Despite the attempts to stop, tuna fishing continues to have enormous values, and much of it is illegal.

Blue Whale

The largest animal in the world is also not saved from being on the list of marine animals in danger of extinction. The main reason, once again, is uncontrolled poaching. Whale fishermen enjoy everything, when we say everything is everything, even their fur.

The whale has been used since the fat and tissue, with which soaps or candles are made, until beards, with which brushes are made, as well as your beef it is widely consumed in some countries around the world. There are other reasons for its population to be so affected, such as acoustic or environmental contamination, which affect the ecosystem of these animals.
